This is already a few months old but... If somehow the flash drive is not readable (but still recognized), it can sometimes be fixed by a low-level format (ie. after trying the high-level stuff first, like TestDisk).
Low-level format or reprogramming the USB flash drive controller is not for the faint of heart. I have recently tried it though. I had a Silicon Power USB 3.0 flash drive that has errors when I try to read some files. A high-level format (ie. Windows) won't successfully format it (will hang or drop out).
After reading about reprogramming flash drive controllers, I decided I have nothing to lose (the worse is the flash drive is totally not usable). First, use ChipGenius to identify the flash drive controller.
http://www.usbdev.ru/files/chipgenius/
Next you need to find the exact firmware reprogramming tool as per the chipset.
The same site http://www.usbdev.ru/ (the site is in Russian, so you may need Google Translate to help out) contains low-level programming tools. Be sure you select the EXACT chip before doing any reprogramming. Also, it's a bit difficult to understand the technical terms (plus the low-level programming tools commands are not-exactly-descriptive) so I had to make some guesses as to what they do... But anyway, I was able to find the correct tool to reprogram the flash drive and a high-level format later, the flash drive is working 100%.
Another thing I overlooked though, if I had directly gotten to Silicon Power's website, they have a low-level reprogramming tool there (it's in their recovery software), which seems to be the same tool that I used (although different version, and Silicon Power's recovery tool does it automatically instead of having to manually use the low-level tool).
I have just one experience so it's just in case anyone is brave enough to give it a try.

I think I bricked my micro sd card, or it was fake
32 gig sandisk brand, bought direct from ASUS store in the mall, along with an ASUS cellphone 2 weeks ago
I used it for torrents in a tablet, worked fine. Downloaded 20.8 gigs, it was ok
then I removed it and reformatted it to NTFS.
Ran h2testw_1.4 to check for errors. Oddly enough, it showed an error in the last few kilobytes.
Did crystal disk speed benchmarks. Ran it several times using 2 different known working cdrking card readers on usb 2 and usb 3 ports on my desktop. No problem
Then I ejected it, put it away then I remembered I had to place a file on it, popped it back in the card reader and ... windows says I need to format it. Tried reformatting but ayaw. Cannot complete format if I use low level format
I noticed that the card is quite hot.

it gets hot even after only less than 1 minute
and when formatting, it says 30 mb, mb not gb. of course formatting fails.
Hayy nako, along with a fake 8gig sandisk, I am NEVER buying sandisk again.

PERO, Para syang Trash CAN, lahat ng ilalagay mung Files Mawawala or mako-CORRUPT.
Ayun! nakaTambak lang yung USB di magamit.
Warning ko na lang at Advise na wag kayu bumili nyan ITS FAKE.
Pambili na rin sana ng Bigas, naging bato pa.

guys may tanong ako. I have 2 micro sd cards, 1 sandisk ultra and 1 sandisk extreme.
Si Ultra is rated A1, extreme is A2/V30

I just found out something - the hard way. Some flash drives have a write cache.
A usb 3.0 sandisk flash drive (on a usb 2.0 port, but its pretty much the same on a usb 3.0 port)
so far so good right? Well look at a 1 gig file transfer, write speed drops from 17 mb/s to 3-5 mb/s at 800 megs or so
So once the write cache is filled up, write speed drops

Strontium Ammo Nitro 64GB.
Walang kwenta. Ganda pa naman nung metal uni-body nya. Tested on different computers. Taas-baba lagi yung speed ever 3 seconds from 0MB to 60MB/s. Malaki yung files na ginamit ko, from 1GB to 4GB.
