Car Mechanics (Got car problems? We're here)

  • @circuit1234

taga saan ka? pwede manood/tulungan kita sa TOH para matuto ako.
  • hinala ko alternator problem but i'd like to seek your expert opinions first.

    scenario:
    1. all AC devices intermittently turns off for about 1 second before going back on by itself
    2. tested during idle and running, same thing happens even when the engine is revved or running at high rpm
    3. this happens when the radiator fan turns on (since engine gets hot), and also when the aircon compressor engages
    4. more frequent at night (abour every 3 minutes) when stuck in traffic since the headlights are turned on
    5. less frequent in the morning (once every 20-30 minutes

any other possible culprit besides the alternator? sa weekend ko pa mapapagawa since busy sa work ngayon.

    thanks!

to check if your alternator is working, try removing the positive terminal from the battery while the engine is running. kapag namatay ang engine mo, may problem ang alternator mo.
  • @ssi_markd: masama daw yan bro eh..

Checking the alternator by removing the battery cable has gone out of style because of the potential damages it can cause to cars electrical systems. A safer and more accurate way to check your alternator is buy using the headlight test. If the alternator does not pass the headlight test, use a voltage meter or taking the battery to a shop or auto repair store to be tested. Battery testing is normally free, and if your battery tests ok, then the problem is likely related to your alternator.

Never remove any battery terminal to test the alternator. As others have said this could cause a severe spike in power which could blow expensive electronic components. On the old dynamo/generator type systems it was OK to disconnect a battery lead and it was a good test to see if the car was charging.

Apurahan kasi trabaho nila at walang ingat.

Kung EFI ang engine mo ay delicado ito sa ECU. Lalo na kung sira yun Alternator IC voltage regulator.
