  • got a Xonar DS last month, came with an ne5532d op-amp.

info para sa mga naghahanap ng op-amps:
naghanap ako ng lm4562 kung saan saan wala ako makita so I ordered 5 free samples from TI (they aquired Natl.Sem. a year back)
sana walang bayad iyung shipping :) \'di ako hiningan ng payment info, nabasa ko sa site nila upon delivery na daw ung payment, although kung ayaw mo daw bayaran puwede mo sakanila ibalik.

will report back here with the shipping cost incase na singilin ako :D
  • most likely sa national semicon HK office mangagaling yung opamps mo. mabilis lang transit time, mga 3-5 days.

sumobra na nga higpit ng pagkuha ng samples sa national after they were acquired by TI. i ordered samples from TI more than a year ago, scrutinized talaga yung approval process. they even cut down the quantities to just 2, pag napansin nila na madami ka mag order.

dun sa shipping fee for your comparison, dun sa huling order ko last year was almost $20 pero di sya cash on delivery.

kung gamit mo e school email e mejo madali pa. manufacturers are very accomodating to engineering students, tapos libre pa ;)
  • ^yep I used my college email add. hopefully mura or better yet walang bayad yung shipping, 5 pcs max iyung inoffer sakin, who am I to refuse LOL :)

about dun sa 20$ parang medyo makali ah, samples lang ba yun or paid items? medyo masakit ata sa bulsa kung pagbayarin akong 20$ for 5 pcs of LM4562

edit: saw your post a page back, 18$ for 5 pcs of samples is a tad bit high , although acceptable pa.

total ko is 0$ [looking at the same invoice page] although waiting to be shipped pa ang status, baka inaassess pa? :))

  • bale $18 + foreign currency surcharge for credit cards = almost $20. and yes those were samples ;)

mejo mura na rin sya at that time considering the price of a 4562 at online stores like digikey or farnell was almost $5, shipping fee and tax not yet included.

before national was acquired by TI, anyone can get samples for free and you only pay for the shipping charge upon checkout. once posted na yung payment, ship na nila kaagad sa address mo.

pero ngayon under TI na sila di na basta basta makakuha ng samples ng libre. webmail addresses are banned. email domains from technical schools and universities are most likely to be approved, gawa ka lang ng magandang reason kung bakit kelangan mo ng samples. company email is the best pero dapat yung industry ng opis nyo is in either electrical, electronics, telco or manufacturing.

kung pasado ka, expect your opamps shipped in a nice small square box hehe. keep us posted for updates :)
  • package arrived, wow ang bilis. nung sunday lang ako umorder ng samples then tuesday afternoon dumating na, best of all: libre at wala akong binayaran ni singko :)

again, I used my college provided email add. will get to testing the lm4562 on my budget card, hot swapable naman ang op-amp niya so DIP ang kinuha kong IC package

edit: wow the lm4562 is (subjectively, vs the ne5532) better in the high frequency ranges and has a better better soundstage. I\'m not really an audiophile but I personally like the 4562\'s sound better, definitely an upgrade for me.

  • hehe, ang dali lang no? sound impressions on the DS?

btw, wag mo abusuhin yung free samples. pag nag order ka uli wait for at least a couple of months or more and make sure na iba naman hingin mo like other ICs. i heard lots of stories of sample requests that eventually got denied due to being a repeat customer.
  • definitely wont order samples again until i really, really need it and definitely ibang IC naman.

    I\'m not well versed in audio but here are my impressions for the DS;
clear highs and a pretty standard bass, soundstage is good, this is a budget card after all. a pretty big leap from onboard even for a barebones soundcard (onboard sound processors are getting better these days). I always use HiFi mode in the software when listening (all effects off).

after replacing the op amp with an lm4562 (from the previous ne5532). I immediately noticed warmer bass and better sounding highs.

downside lang ay yung aging PCI interface ng DS, but you can get the DSX, similar spec-wise difference lang ay PCI-E siya at mas mahal ng konti.
