Asus EEEpc 1000h and MSI Wind

  • 2long nmn mas ok kya benta q tong presario b1200 kong lappie tpos bili me ng eee pc 1000h problem ko kc d2 is ung weight niya... 12 inch xa pero mabigat p rin pra sakin
  • The best pa rin yung EEE PC 900 plus an extra battery.
  • just bought a black wind at gilmore ( 3 - cell battery ). internet says full charge use of the battery is at 2 hours with normal use.

bakit sa akin, full charge, pero pagka on ko palang 1 hour 40 minutes agad ang nakalagay sa battery meter. i'm sure that my wind isn't overclocked, because the default bios (1.06) that came with my wind has the keyboard overclock disabled permanently.

for a laptop with 2 hour battery life, 1 hour and 40 minutes is a big difference.
  • here's a great review from an eee 1000h user from this thread

    http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=40432

    Hi everyone,

I decided to buy a netbook and, like many, narrowed the choice down to the Asus Eee PC 1000H or the MSI Wind. After a lot of studying, I decided to buy the 1000H. To help those trying to make the same decision, I thought I'd share how I made my choice between these two well-regarded systems.

    Size:
The MSI Wind is slightly smaller (.3"w x.4"l x .5"h) than the 1000H. Because the extra .3" width allows a bigger keyboard and the .4" length a taller touchpad, I don't see this as a disadvantage to the 1000H. The .3" reduction in height of the Wind, however, is to MSI's advantage. This advantage is more aesthetic than functional. Because I am a form-follows-function type of guy, I gave a nod to the 1000H. I realize more aesthetically conscientious folks may prefer the Wind.

    Weight:
The 1000H weighs in at 3 lbs. 2 oz., while the 6-cell Wind comes in at 3 lbs. This difference is about the same as holding 11 nickels in your hand. Not a massive difference, but one that is definitely noticeable. Winner: Wind.

    Case:
The Wind has a case that's rounded to disguise its bulk. It also has a low-luster finish that's resistant to fingerprints. The 1000H is boxier and its high-gloss finish is considered to be a fingerprint magnet. Aesthetic types might prefer the 1000H's finish but would still probably prefer the Wind's shape. Again, I'm more of a form-follows-function guy. Winner: Wind.

    Keyboard:
The keyboard on the 1000H is larger and is considered to offer more tactile feedback than the Wind's. However, it's often more rickety feeling. But this can be simply fixed by popping out the keyboard and adding extra support under the keyboard with tape, or aluminum foil. As one who highly values keyboard input, I'd class this category in the 1000H's favor. However, there's the whole business of the location of the shift key, which I consider an almost unforgivable sin. The Wind is also not without fault here. MSI reduced the widths of the comma, period, and slash keys. Not good, but not as bad as what Asus did on the 1000H. In the end, I actually consider this a tie and, because it’s so important to me, decided to research whether waiting would make something better available. To my knowledge, Lenovo, Dell, and ECS have announced upcoming netbooks. But images of all three show they'll be treating the shift key the same way Asus does. If I could have my ideal keyboard, it'd be a 1000H-sized version of the keyboard used in the Acer Aspire One. But I don't want to wait forever for it to happen. Winner: Tie.

    Touchpad:
The touchpad used in the 1000H is larger than the one offered in the Wind. With the newest drivers, it also features significant multi-touch capabilities. MSI's touchpad is less feature-rich and has recently become even more so as they're replaced their Synaptic touchpad with a less functional one by Sentelic. Winner: 1000H.

    Mouse buttons:
The Asus has separate left and right mouse buttons while the Wind has only a single rocker bar that can give ambiguous results if pressed toward the center. But the 1000H buttons are difficult to press while the Wind's is much easier. Winner: Tie

    Screen:
To quote Laptop Magazine, "[The 1000H] Compared with the MSI Wind NB, the horizontal viewing angles were better, and vertically tilting the screen caused only a bit of glare...[The Wind's display] while vertical viewing angles are decent, horizontal angles are poor. With both screens sitting side by side at 50 percent brightness the Wind's lacked the same vividness as the Eee PC's. The Wind also lacks a resolution switcher; you've got to dig through the settings to change the resolution." Winner: 1000H.

    Speakers:
The Wind's speakers are considered decent. But reviewers state they do not offer the volume and low-end provided by the 1000H's Dolby Sound Room speakers. Winner: 1000H.

    Webcam:
Reviews place these on an equal footing, though the 1000H may offer a slight edge in lower-light conditions. But the 1000H's microphone is said to have less background noise. Winner: 1000H.

    Performance:
The Wind and 1000H use the same processor, has the same mount of RAM, etc., giving them both essentially equal performance. Winner: Tie.

    Graphics:
In a test by Laptop Magazine, the 1000H generated a 3DMark03 score of 739 while the Wind came in at 606. They found the Wind could be overclocked to a faster speed where it could beat the 1000H. But overclocking has been removed, likely due to concerns of premature CPU failure, so the advantage goes to the 1000H.

    Wifi:
The Wind features an 802.11 b/g wireless card. The 1000H has a faster 802.11 b/g/n card. Both appear to offer comparable reception. Winner: 1000H.

    Hard Drive:
The 1000H sports a Seagate Momentus drive that boots in 40 seconds. The Wind has a Western Digital Scorpio that boots in 34 seconds. However, Western Digital warranties the Wind's drive for three years. Seagate warranties the 1000H's drive for five. As one who values drive integrity more than a small increase in speed, and will bias things by saying I've had disappointing experiences with WD drives, I give the win to the 1000H. Others may hold a different opinion.

    Battery:
Laptop Magazine found the 1000H's battery to last 4 hours, 28 minutes. The Wind's 6-cell lasted a full 45 minutes longer at 5 hours, 13 minutes. Winner: Wind.

    Expandability:
The warranty on the Wind is breeched if the case is opened. The 1000H is easily opened without voiding the warranty and the memory, hard drive and wifi card can be easily replaced. Winner: 1000H.

    Price:
The Wind and 1000H are now equally priced at $550, eliminating the main complaint many reviews had with the 1000H over the Wind. Winner: Tie.

    Company:
To me, the company behind the product is important. Asus' innovative thinking created the netbook industry. The 1000H is their 3rd generation machine that builds on what they learned. They originally priced the unit at $650, and then reduced it to $550. MSI is new to the market. Though their first offering is strong, they've made mistakes with it. They had to raise the Wind's price. But what's disappointing is way they did it. They mandated retailers cancel existing customer orders when they announced the change. They also recently changed the touchpad in their new 6-cell units to a cheaper model without informing customers. This shows a troublesome lack of concern for consumers. Winner: 1000H.

    So to recap:
    Size: 1000H
    Weight: Wind
    Case: Wind
    Keyboard: Tie
    Touchpad: 1000H
    Mouse buttons: Tie
    Screen: 1000H
    Speakers: 1000H
    Webcam: 1000H
    Performance: Tie
    Graphics: 1000H
    Wifi: 1000H
    Hard Drive: 1000H
    Battery: Wind
    Expandability: 1000H
    Price: Tie
    Company: 1000H

Thus by my evaluation process, the Wind wins 3 categories. Four categories are ties. The 1000H wins 10 categories. So the overall win, and my money, went to the Asus Eee PC 1000H.

  • for battery issues: if you are on battery usage, lower down your light i mean lessen the light usage to save greater battery life... i have 3 cell and 6 cell, everytime i use them, my screen is little dim to save more while on battery. my 6 cell when fully charged, it has a maximum battery life of 5hours... great isn't it? same as to my 3 cell.. longer battery life, means greater outcome on whatever you are doing!
